Here is a quote from the article:
It's not as if Polgar has a long history of getting into fights with
her chess brothers and sisters. In fact, there's really just been this
one incident, said David Pruess, content manager for Chess.com.
Obviously, David Pruess knows little about the history of Susan
Polgar. In reality her history is one of constant fights with
organizers and authorities starting from Age 12 when she first played
competitively. Many of her claims of "gender discrimination" are bogus
(although some are valid). Polgar's father was unwilling to accept the
conditions imposed by the Hungarian Chess Federation on all Hungarian
players. Polgar's father wanted a better deal (usually involving more
money) than the other players of her caliber got.
Susan Polgar was widely hated in her own country of Hungary and they
were so happy when she finally left.
By the time she arrived in the USA in the early 1990s, Susan Polgar
had already announced her retirement from competitive chess. When she
started to play again, there were new controversies. She was fined by
the organizers of the 1996 Woman's World Championship Match in Spain.
A recent study has shown that her moves in that match, which she won,
matched the moves of a chess computer more closely than that of any
other human grandmaster.
After Susan won that match, she refused to defend her World Chess
Championship title, claiming that she could not play because she was
pregnant, then nursing, then pregnant again. Finally after agreeing to
continuous postponements over a two year period, FIDE had no choice
but to strip her of her World Chess Title because the next cycle was
about complete, so she sued FIDE for that.
Later, when she got involved with Truong there were a huge number of
controversies involving her, including her demand that she be paid
$50,000 by the USCF for "Training" the US Woman's Team, training that
some of the rival women did not want but were told if they did not
take it they could not play on the team.
There was also the Anna Hahn Affair about which much has been written
on this group and "The Picturegate Affair".
In short there has never been a time from 1981 when she was 12 and
competing without permission in the World's Under 16 Championship in
England until this day that Susan Polgar has not been involved in some
conflict or controversy.
I actually believe that she is addicted to this. Like a movie star who
always has to find some way to get into the news, Susan Polgar has a
need constantly to get into some controversy or other, much as an
alcoholic always needs to have his drink.
